Kiptogot-Kolongolo Water Project is a Giant Rural Water Supply Project to serve Chepchoina Location of Endebes Constituency and Kwanza and Kapkomboi locations of Kwanza Constituency. The estimated Supply area is 618 km2 with a human population of 122,873 people and 24,224 households with a population density of 199 persons/km2 and consisting about 25% of Trans Nzoia County population.

The main objective of the project is to improve the access, quality, availability and sustainability of water supply and wastewater management services in multiple towns with a view to catalyzing commercial activities, driving economic growth, improving quality of life of people and building resilience against climate variability and change.

The Construction of Kiptogot Kolongolo Water Supply system  serve Endebess, Kwanza, Chepchoina, Keiyo areas

among others. The Project is composed of the following:

  • Two intake weir one on Mubere River and the other on Kaptega River;
  • 2 nr Raw Water Gravity Mains of DN 400 Steel Pipe;
  • Mubere Treatment Plant of Capacity 5,000 m3/day at Taoso ( Soko Hewa) next to Kiptogot Forest;
  • Kaptega Treatment Works of Capacity 5,000 m3/day next to Kaptega Forest;
  • 1,500 m3 clear Water Storage Tank-2No;
  • A Gravity Main of diameter 300mm Cement Lined GI pipe will run from Taoso (Soko Hewani) Market to Mowlem Market Centre where it will be joined by a gravity main from Kaptega River. .Enroute, it will supply 796m3/day to Kiptogot implying that only 4,087m3/day will reach Mowlem Market Centre and will still require diameter 300mm Cement Lined GI Pipe;
  • A Gravity Main of diameter 300mm Cement Lined GI pipe will run from Treatment Plant and length 4km to Chepchoina River and supply 1,481m3/day out of 4,883m3/day to Kaptega Sub-location. From here, it will carry 3,402m3/day but supply 1020m3/day to Twiga Sublocation living a balance of 2382m3/day and the pipe reducing to diameter 250mm GI cement lined pipe.

The scope of works for this assignment entail carrying out additional investigations (topographical surveys, geotechnical surveys) of water supply infrastructure and socio-economic study on willingness and ability to pay for water supply services. The assignment also involves reviewing the hydrological data, hydraulics designs, structural designs and design of electromechanical component of the project. The assignment further entails updating the tender documents and tender drawings and assist the Client with tendering, construction supervision and supervision during defects liability period.
